Jonathan Prue, LMT – Portland Massage Therapist

Are you looking for a Portland massage therapist? Holistic Portland Massage in Portland Oregon offers one of the best massages in town. Jonathan Prue, LMT has been building his clientele over the past several years in Portland, and has a long list of relaxed and happy customers. Jonathan offers a unique approach towards massage: instead of giving everyone the same cookie cutter massage, he listens to your body and uses his intuitive nature and experience to design a massage that will work best for you. This means your therapeutic Portland massage will always leave you feeling relaxed and renewed, with a greater sense of peace and more range of movement from releasing tight knots of tension and letting go of stress.

Satisfied customers say that a massage therapy appointment with Jonathan is akin to therapy – a necessary routine where you take the time to tend to your body and spirit and manage your stress in a holistic, healthy way. We are all so rushed and have so many commitments that we forget to take time out for ourselves and just unplug for a while. A regular massage can be a healthy way to do this and can serve as a wonderful addition to your holistic health regimen. Jonathan offers massage discounts for clients who purchase massage packages, and of course he has the best new client massage offer in Portland – a free Portland massage or upgrade to an hour for only $20! This is his way of giving everyone an affordable opportunity to experience the healing benefits of massage. Hopefully, after your first appointment, you will become a regular client, too!

Portland Massage Therapists offer several different styles of massage in many different settings, from luxurious Portland massage spas, to bare bones settings. At Holistic Portland Massage, the primary focus is on you: giving you a massage tailored to your body’s signals, designed to make you feel better, each and every time. Massages are offered at the Tint Salon and Spa location in NE Portland in the Hollywood neighborhood. Housed in an old Portland bungalow, Holistic Portland Massage is located upstairs where you will get your massage in the “tree house room”, a quiet space with wood floors, surrounded with windows up in the tree canopy. Relaxing soft music or ambient noise will help lull you into a state of relaxation as your massage therapy session begins. If desired, aromatherapy massage oils can be added to enhance the experience. It is a great space and you will get a wonderful massage. There are more expensive places to get a massage in town, but the massage experience at Holistic Portland Massage is one of the best, and the highest quality, each and every time.

What to Know to be Prepared for your Portland Massage Therapy Session

Just let Jonathan know if you want your massage customized in any way to work on certain problem area such as a tight neck or sore shoulders, and tell him how much pressure you feel comfortable with. As one of Portland’s best deep tissue massage therapists, you won’t get a wimpy massage – he will get those tough knots out and loosen up the tension! If you want more or less pressure, just let him know.

Knots are also called myofascial trigger points, and they are those knots in your back or neck that seems to be locked up and producing pain or limited range of movement. A deep tissue massage can help to release the tight muscle spasm that is producing the knot. Working out a particularly tight knot can be a little uncomfortable and leave you a little sore the next day, but you will feel so much better once the muscle has relaxed and pent up toxins have left your body. Always drink lots of water after your massage session to facilitate flushing the released toxins from your body, so they don’t just pool up again and leave you feeling lousy. People who get a therapeutic massage and then complain of feeling slightly ill the next day probably forgot to drink lots of water.

Portland Massage Therapist Qualifications

Jonathan Prue has been educated at the renowned East West College of Healing Arts and is a member of several professional massage organizations. As a professional licensed massage therapist in the State of Oregon (LMT #11061), he is required to take ongoing education and continually updates his massage practice with new skills to improve your massage experience. Visit the “About” Portland Massage Therapist page to read Jonathan’s personal mission and outlook towards healing massage. Also read some client reviews about Holistic Portland Massage on Yelp.com.

Portland Anxiety Massage – Holistic Portland Massage Reduces Stress

We spend our lives surrounded by stress. It’s no wonder that we’re anxious. Did you know that massage therapy techniques are designed and practiced for the sole purpose of increasing the health and well being of the client? Relaxing and soothing massage allows the brain to escape for a while. It allows you to get in touch with yourself in an emotional and physical manner.

Massage therapy is a generalized term that refers to over 80 methods of both passive and active manual manipulation of the body’s soft tissues and joints.

How Massage helps with Anxiety

Here is a partial list of some of the health benefits brought about by regular massage therapy:

Massage lowers stress – the cause of anxiety disorders as well as roughly 80% of all diseases.

Massage enhances the health of the entire receiving organism. One of the primary ways that this happens is through increased blood circulation.

With increased blood flow, oxygen and nutrients are more efficiently delivered to all the cellular structures of the body. Also, cellular waste is expelled more efficiently.

The implementation of regular massage therapy techniques helps to reverse feelings of depression in gloom. Research has shown that people who regularly receive massages show increased levels of serotonin.

Read this article about the benefits of massage therapy from MayoClinic.com

Taking time for yourself is one healthy way you can manage stress and anxiety in your life. Make your personal health and well being a priority. A regular massage appointment gives you time alone to relax and care for your mind and body.

Most of the time, when people are experiencing the adverse symptoms brought about by high levels of anxiety, they are unaware of the source. The fact is that our busy lives –the constant activity, competition, pressure to succeed – make us a nervous. Take the first step in reversing your symptoms of anxiety today. Contact Jonathan at Holistic Portland Massage and begin a regular massage therapy program. It’s more than something to just make you feel physically great; it’s something that can actually improve your life.

Remember, there is nothing more important than your health. If you have excessive symptoms of anxiety, please see your health care professional for a diagnosis and treatment.

Holistic Portland Massage – Relaxation Massage Therapy Services

A Portland relaxation massage is by far one of the most popular services at Holistic Portland Massage. Everyone needs to relax and de-stress, and one of the most effective ways you can do that is to get a massage. So what is a relaxation massage? Usually, it is a combination of deep tissue work to remove knots, combined with Swedish massage to gently warm up your muscles in a relaxing series of repetitive motions that eases the tension out of your body. The overall experience will leave you feeling more relaxed and at peace.

Taking time for yourself is one healthy way you can manage stress and anxiety in your life. Make your personal health and well being a priority. A regular massage appointment gives you time alone to relax and care for your mind and body. The massage itself will produce a relaxed and euphoric state of mind, and this will help quell any feelings of anxiety. As your pulse slows and you relax in a quiet room with the skilled hands of the therapist working the kinks out, you will feel at ease.

Benefits of Portland Relaxation Massage:

Stress management

Relief from tension headaches

Improved blood circulation

Removal of toxins

Improved range of movement

Reduced anxiety

In these busy times, we often forget to take care of ourselves. Make yourself and your health a high priority. Why not make a regular massage a part of your routine? Holistic Portland Massage offers discounted relaxation massage therapy sessions when you purchase massages by the package. Many of my clients have been regulars for years and they swear by it, and how important a regular massage is in their regimen of good health and stress management. You will receive your massage in a relaxing room, and aromatherapy can be used at your request to enhance your massage experience.

Holistic Portland Massage is located in a peaceful room, upstairs at Tint Salon and Spa. Your Portland massage spa setting is a quiet, relaxing space where you can forget your troubles.

Portland Fibromyalgia Massage Therapist, at Holistic Portland Massage

Fibromyalgia refers to a condition of unknown origin that induces widespread muscular and joint pain. This pain also emanates from tendons and ligaments. This muscular pain is often accompanied by the inability to sleep soundly as well as feelings of exhaustion. The term fibromyalgia is a relatively recent one. The condition used to be known as soft tissue rheumatism, fibrositis and non-articular rheumatism.
It is estimated that fibromyalgia affects 4% of all people. Women are four times as likely to get fibromyalgia as men. It is most common amongst women and men over 50 years old. As people age, they’re more likely to get fibromyalgia. Here’s a list of symptoms associated with the condition:

Stiffness and pain in the muscles and joints

Total body pains

Insomnia

Chronic fatigue syndrome

Muscle and joint numbness

Memory failure

Inability to concentrate

Tension headaches

Migraine headaches

Depression

temperomandibular joint dysfunction (TMJ)

Dryness of the eyes

Shivering and the inability to withstand cold temperatures

Sensitivities to foods, medicines and allergens

Irritable bowel and bladder

Looking at this list of symptoms, it is clear that fibromyalgia is a serious condition that demands regular and effective treatment. Massage therapy techniques, applied by a licensed massage therapist (LMT), are greatly instrumental in the management of fibromyalgia symptoms. Massage for fibromyalgia enhances the health of the entire receiving organism in a holistic fashion. By increasing the circulation of blood, oxygen and nutrients are more efficiently delivered throughout all of the systems of the body.

When people have fibromyalgia, they hurt. When they hurt, they avoid physical activity. When they avoid physical activity, their muscles weaken which accentuates the cycle. When you add to that the fact that they often can’t sleep at night, it’s easy to see why many sufferers have a hard time enjoying any of life’s activities. The inability to participate in life can lead to an onset of depression. It can be a frustrating, vicious cycle, and you need to do as much as you can to fight back and live a healthy and balanced life.

Benefits of Fibromyalgia Massage

Massage therapy techniques are designed and implemented specifically to increase the well being of the clients. Take a look at this a list of just some of the miraculous benefits that directly result from regular massage:

Increased blood flow that brings about increased oxygen and nutrient delivery to cellular structures throughout the body

Alleviation of pain in the muscles and joints

Accelerated healing of sore muscles, tendons and ligaments

The release of stress-related tension

Allows the brain to escape the worries and stressors of everyday life

Puts the mind in touch with the body on both physical and emotional levels

Induces relaxation and peacefulness

Enhances digestive ability

Increases serotonin levels

Decreases the release of disease-causing, stress-related hormones

Helpful Fibromyalgia Tips

A gentle exercise regimen can help. Try yoga, pilates, or regular stretching.

Be sure to drink adequate water (8-10 glasses a day)

Some evidence suggests Omega 3 fatty acids (fish oil supplements) might help naturally reduce cellular inflammation

Make your relaxation and well-being a priority. Of course a regular massage can help you relax, and offers several other health benefits.

If you have severe symptoms, please see your physician. Your body needs adequate rest, and if you aren’t sleeping you can become chronically exhausted.

Unfortunately, there is no known cause or cure for fibromyalgia. However, many leading world health organizations are in agreement that as much as 80% of all diseases are stress-related. They all agree that an effective pain management strategy is the best course of action for dealing with symptoms of fibromyalgia. Massage therapy increases your well being. An increase in your well being results in decreased stress levels. You have to take control of your fibromyalgia symptoms. Take the first step in getting back control of your own life today.

Appointment for Portland Fibromyalgia Massage

Contact Jonathan Prue, LMT at Holistic Portland Massage for a relaxing massage for fibromyalgia. You can book online, or call 503-753-2233 if you have any questions about fibromyalgia massage and what to expect. Be sure to tell Jonathan that you have fibromyalgia, and communicate about the level of pressure that is comfortable for you. There is nothing wrong with asking for more or less pressure to fine tune the massage to what your body signals are telling you.

A full-body massage for arthritis is both relaxing and soothing. Licensed massage therapists (LMTs) use their fingers, hands, forearms and elbows to deliver a series of strokes, rubs, taps, pulls and other manual manipulation techniques. This results and pain reduction, tension release, increased blood flow, increased oxygen and nutrient delivery, a euphoric sense of well-being, increased production of natural healing chemicals and a general increase in the health and happiness.

As with many debilitating diseases, arthritis makes those afflicted hesitant to participate in life’s activities. Non-participation in common activities weakens the muscles, tendons, ligaments and joints further. The pain increases and many times general lethargy sets in. This causes an imbalance in all of the body’s systems. Chemicals get out of whack and sometimes depression sets in. The individual experiences a chronic loss of interest and motivation.

Massage therapy for arthritis encourages the body’s natural defense mechanisms to engage. Chemical imbalances can be lessened or reversed. The healing of sore muscles and joints is accelerated. After a full-body arthritis massage, the individual is left feeling invigorated and more capable. Because they feel better, they are once again able to participate in life. This in turn may help to reverse the effects
of depression that can come from suffering with any chronic illness.

If you suffer from symptoms of arthritis, you have to take control of your own pain management regimen. Taking drugs can mask the pain. However, drug use can have undesired side effects. Massage therapy for arthritis is one complementary therapy that may help you feel better. There are no harmful side effects.

Remember, your health and well being is the top priority. Always consult with your healthcare professional for diagnosis and treatment if you are suffering from frequent stiff and painful joints, or inflammation. Massage has many benefits and can definitely help you feel better but is not a substitute or replacement for medical treatment of arthritis.

Portland Pregnancy Massage – Prenatal Massage Portland Oregon

Portland pregnancy massage is a special massage for mom’s-to-be, designed to help you relax and feel better during your pregnancy.
Moms-to-be all over the world are turning to pregnancy massage to keep their pregnancies natural and healthy. Women today are seeking more natural and complementary therapies, as an alternative to traditional medicine. A pregnancy massage can definitely help you feel better. Being pregnant can sometimes be very uncomfortable. Your body is growing and there is more stress than ever on muscles and joints. You’ll suffer new aches, pains, and swelling, and you may suffer from headaches. What is a mom to do? Beginning regular massage therapy sessions can not only provide effective solutions for the common ailments of pregnancy; it can potentially also help in having a healthier baby.

Portland Prenatal Massage Benefits – Some Benefits of Portland Pregnancy Massage

Take a look at just some of the wonderful affects that massage therapy can have on pregnancy:

Massage increases blood circulation. This increases the delivery of oxygen and other vital nutrients throughout the body’s systems via the bloodstream.

Increased circulation lessens the stress on the heart muscle.

Increased oxygen delivery lessens the burdens placed upon the respiratory system.

Massage helps to stimulate digestion. Digestion, for all people – pregnant or not is the hardest process for the human body to perform.

Moms-to-be definitely want to minimize stress. Stress-related factors may be attributed to 80% of all disease. Massage therapy relaxes and soothes. It is an excellent way to reduce stress. And your baby will be feeling the healthful results of the massage, too!

Getting a pregnancy massage gives the brain an escape clause. The mind is freed from the hustle and constant motion of everyday life. When you get a massage, you have time to get in touch with your emotions.

Portland Pregnancy Massage – Relaxing your Mind, as Well as your Body

Sometimes expectant mothers can feel a little anxious or depressed. Massage therapy has been clinically proven to increase the production of serotonin. Serotonin is the chemical released in the brain that helps us to naturally feel better. A prenatal massage increases feelings of well-being and happiness.

Instead of taking a drug to relieve pain, get a prenatal massage instead. Licensed massage therapists (LMTs) are professionally trained to relieve pain naturally, without drugs. When you are finished with your massage, your muscles will have released all held tension, your tendons and ligaments will have been flooded with oxygen-rich blood, your circulatory system will be functioning optimally and you will be filled with elation brought about by the release of natural endorphins.

Areas that may be swollen from poor circulation begin to improve. Your joints tired from carrying additional weight will feel rejuvenated and invigorated. Manual manipulation from your massage therapist will alleviate both tension and migraine headaches. A tranquil prenatal massage brings you closer to nature. For a mom-to-be especially, a sense of purpose and well-being is reestablished.

Ensure that your pregnancy is as natural and healthful as is possible. While getting a massage is often considered a luxury, it is also a necessity to treat your body well and to put your health and wellness as a top priority. This is especially true during your pregnancy. Treat yourself and your baby to the blissful world of massage therapy today.

Please consult your physician if you are pregnant and get appropriate medical treatment. In some cases, massage during pregnancy is contraindicated, so please ask your physician if massage is safe for you.

When you’re looking for a massage in Portland Oregon then you have plenty of places to choose from. There are many spas and massage studios in town. I think that the best Portland OR massage experience is a matter of finding the right massage therapist for you. This means finding a therapist that you feel comfortable with, and one who is skilled and experienced and “in tune” with clients so each service can be customized.

You should always be able to trust your therapist to give you the best massage possible, while listening to your requests to adjust the massage so that you are happy and relaxed.

I have been doing massages for several years here in Portland since graduating from the East West College of Healing Arts, and I have a lot of experience giving my clients a great massage every time. As one of Portland’s best massage therapists, I know there are many different places you can get your massage so I am grateful for every client and respect the fact that you chose to select me for your massage.

Besides the massage therapist, there are two other factors that people consider when making a Portland massage appointment. The first is cost, and the second is the environment or ambiance of the massage location. Some people are looking for an upscale spa ambiance, while for others no-frills environment doesn’t matter. I am happy to offer a perfect balance for those who choose Holistic Portland Massage. I give my massages in a relaxing old Portland bungalow, upstairs at Tint Salon and Spa in NE Portland. You will receive your massage in a quiet room with peaceful energy so you can relax on the massage table and let go of stress and tension. And, my new client massage specials are unbeat! You can get a free half hour massage or upgrade to an hour for only $20!

Best of all, you will receive one of the highest quality therapeutic massages available in our fine city, I promise!

The next time you are looking for a massage in Portland Oregon, I hope you will trust me to be your next therapist. Please take advantage of my amazing special offer for new clients–a free half hour massage or an hour for only $20 for new clients on first visits. I hope you enjoy your massage in Portland Oregon.

Listed below are some frequently asked questions about Portland massage services at Holistic Portland Massage.

How much is a massage?

Please visit our rates page for current Portland massage rates.

What are the different types or modalities of massage and how do I know what kind to ask for?

Please visit the services page to learn more about the various types of Portland massage available. Each massage will be customized to provide what that client needs. My goal is to give you an exceptional massage, every single time. You should feel comfortable communicating with your therapist if you want a specific type of massage, such as deep tissue, relaxation, etc., so just ask me and I will try to customize your service for maximum benefit.

What can I expect during the massage?

Your massage will be conducted in a comfortable private room on a relaxing massage table for your comfort. Your massage therapist will speak to you ahead of the service, then will leave you in the room for a couple of minutes so that you can get prepared, and begin to relax on the table. At your discretion, you may completely disrobe, as you will be properly draped throughout the entire massage service. Your massage therapist is a trained and licensed professional and someone you can trust. Of course, if you prefer leaving some clothing on, that is entirely your choice. Do whatever makes you feel comfortable! Lay face down on the massage table, covered with the massage sheet and let your body relax. The therapist will quietly enter the room, set the intention for your massage, and will then begin a gentle touch to ease you into the massage service. Once the massage is complete, you may rest quietly for a few moments before getting up from the table and redressing. The therapist will provide you with a glass of water following the service, as it is important to hydrate your body and flush out toxins. Learn more about What to Expect in your Massage.

Do I have to remove my clothes?

No. Disrobe to the level where you feel comfortable. Keep in mind, your therapist is a trained professional who will keep your body properly draped at all times. It is easier to access your muscles and apply lotions or oils if your clothing isn’t in the way, so many choose to disrobe for the massage service.

What if I am uncomfortable with a male massage therapist?

Jonathan is trained, licensed, and experienced to give a therapeutic massage to help your body and mind feel relaxed. Your massage therapist can be trusted to provide a completely professional service. A therapeutic massage is completely non-sexual in nature. Some people may be concerned with their bodies or feel self conscious, but that should not be a concern: massage therapists work on bodies of all ages, shapes, sizes, and conditions–the only goal of the massage therapist is to make you feel better. So, just relax and enjoy your service.

Do I have to tip a massage therapist?

Gratuity is optional, but tips are very much appreciated. Massage therapists, much like hair stylists, bartenders, waiters and other jobs in the service industry, rely on their tips as a portion of their income. You will receive 100% attention during each and every massage, and the goal is to give you an exceptional service that you are happy with. If you are delighted with your massage, please feel free to tip your massage therapist. The right amount is entirely up to you!

Why are massages so expensive?

Massage therapists are trained professionals who have college and school expenses, on-going licensing, training and continuing education, massage supplies, massage space rentals, and other business expenses and costs to cover. While it would be great to be able to offer the massage services for free so that everyone could benefit from regular massage, unfortunately, massage therapists need to be able to make a living, too. Our rates are competitive, and we offer package discounts and other specials to help make massage more affordable.

Make your Portland massage appointment and relax today!

People taking time out of their day to relax is a big deal, if you ask me. Thinking about ourselves and turning everything off (computers, phones, television, work, stress, pain, and time) is something we sometimes forget to do. Your Portland massage session is where you should strive to think about nothing, except great sensations of therapeutic healing.

Just keep in mind that relaxation starts with taking your time for everything. Give yourself plenty of time to get to the spa, treatment room, office, and/or place of healing. It’s always nice to be relaxed, instead of being rushed or feeling rushed. If the facility has a steam room, you should use it for your muscles and skin. This helps to alleviate some of the tension of the daily stress we encounter. (Check with your doctor if you have questions during pregnancy).

Breathing is a major focus of meditation. Listen to your breathing, so you can feel your energy being healed from the moment it starts. If it’s your first time getting a treatment, then that’s something you could focus on to let go of everything else on your mind. I know what it’s like to have a million things on your mind, so letting go can be tough at times. Imagine floating on water, and letting the waves take care of your body!

Hydrate your Body Before & After Massage

Often times, people don’t drink enough water on a daily basis to help keep proper circulation. A person should drink at least 8-10 12 oz glasses/day, or more if you are an athlete or a person working out regularly. Dehydration of the muscles and skin can cause tightness and tension. Poor circulation can cause possible issues of having cold feet & hands, because of lactic acid build up in the muscles of both upper/lower extremities.

Massage definitely helps blood flow, especially with any movement in the shoulder, hip, and knee area. Compression of any muscle group area causes the blood to come up to the skin, which is just opening up the circulatory movement of the blood system. Stretching & rotating the arms/legs softens the muscles and joints, and it also stimulates the continuum of the blood flow, creating warm sensations that travel all around the body.

Sore muscles relax a lot more when heat is applied before massage begins. For example, try sitting in a steam room for 5-10 minutes, or use heat packs, heating pads, hot patches, and hot stones.Muscles relax with active stretching, deep tissue massage, and medium paced effleurage (light, rhythmic stroking). Once the healing process of the massage takes place, the body may react in all kinds of ways.

Think of your body from that moment forward, so next time you’ll be more prepared. Remember, to drink water throughout the day and to relax as much as possible. Your muscles and body may be sore for a couple of days, so eating healthy, drinking water, maintaining good posture, sleeping regular hours and loving life will help the soreness go away.
